A short story...
With adrenaline coursing through my veins, I sprinted as if my life depended on it, fleeing from the piercing sounds echoing behind me. My eyes frantically scanned the surroundings, searching for a place of refuge. The once familiar forest, my sanctuary, now seemed alien to me. Each step I took reverberated through the forest floor, the rhythm of my heart matching the pace of my escape. As I dashed with all my might, the sound of my footsteps merged with the symphony of the forest. Ahead of me, three diverging paths beckoned - left, right, straight. It sounded easy, but fear had taken hold of me, urging me to make a decision. "Just pick one...just pick one and keep moving," I urged myself, my determination unwavering.
I was absolutely certain that one of these paths would guide me back to the village beyond, but in this thrilling moment, uncertainty gripped me. The forest has been my playground since I was a child, frolicking in games of hide-and-seek with my three brothers. Letting out an excited huff, I shook my head in disbelief, "Why am I reminiscing about this now?" I whispered with frustration. The creature's presence faded, prompting me to slow down and seek refuge behind a tree to catch my breath. But no, that was a terrible idea! Just as I paused, the piercing sound echoed even louder... my heart raced with fear as I sprinted through the familiar forest paths. Opting for the left path, I soon realised my mistake. Fallen trees and broken branches obstructed the way, yet beyond them, a rocky mound with a small opening beckoned. Contemplating whether to turn back and try the middle path, the screeching grew nearer - a sensation of being watched sent shivers down my spine. Without hesitation, I dashed towards the rocky mound...
